1. Research ethics training
Research ethics training is not required by UNC for research that is specifically for a class project. However, a main goal of LING/ANTH 520 is for students to develop an understanding of the research process. Therefore, completion of research ethics training is a requirement for all LING/ANTH 520 students. Also, if you plan to continue your project after the end of the course, you will need to get approval from the non-biomedical IRB (Institutional Review Board), for which research ethics training is a first step. In addition, if you become an RA in linguistics, psychology, or other social/behavioral science fields, this training may be required.
- Complete the Online
CITI training course
- Due by 11:55pm on W Oct 12; counts as one 5-point lab assignment
- What you need to do:

OR by uploading your completion certificate

- More information:
- Getting CITI certification puts you in the IRB's database, which makes you eligible to submit a research proposal for IRB approval at a later time
- The CITI training might take a couple of hours to complete, but it is possible to save your progress and log in again later to finish
