Zoom class etiquette
- Your camera may be on or off during class.
- If possible, please consider turning on your camera when you are speaking, to help make the class a more interactive experience.
- The view from your camera will not be included in the Zoom recordings except when you are the "active speaker". (If you would prefer not to have your image recorded at all, you will need to turn your camera off when you speak.)
- You are welcome to use a Zoom background, or to use a Zoom profile picture in place of video (this does not have to be a picture of yourself). Feel free to be humorous, but please keep these images respectful and appropriate for for the classroom.
- Unless I ask otherwise for a specific class activity, you are welcome to ask questions or contribute to discussion either by talking or by typing in the chat window. I may ask you to raise your Zoom hand to be called on before you start talking, because this often makes a Zoom class work more smoothly.
- Please keep your microphone on mute during class except when you are talking or asking a question in class. I may need to manually mute your audio if background noise from your microphone is audible when you are not talking.
Recordings of class meetings
- Synchronous class meetings will be recorded as a backup for anyone
who has to miss class or who has technology problems during clsas.
- I will always start class before I begin recording, and I will clearly state when I am about to turn the recording on.
- I have Zoom set to record shared screen with speaker view (not gallery view). Student images are not recorded except when the student is speaking.
- Many classes will include small-group discussion or problem solving in Zoom
breakout rooms, which will not be recorded.
- If you miss class and need to watch the recording, be sure to try the group discussion questions or problem-solving activities on your own and check with me or a classmate if you have questions.
- The video of each class will be posted later that day or the next day,
depending on how long it takes for Zoom and Panopto to process the files.
- Only students and auditors enrolled in our class can access the videos.
- Links to each video (via Sakai) can be found on the Daily syllabus page under the relevant date.
- All videos can also be accessed directly from the "Panopto" link in Sakai.
- The videos can be streamed, but not downloaded. If this poses a problem for you, please let me know.
- Policies for use of class recordings by students:
- Any use of a class recording by a student shall be for educational purposes only.
- Students may not record a class on their own, in any format, without prior express authorization from the University and may not copy, reproduce or distribute any recording that they access.
- Students requesting the use of assistive technology as an accommodation should contact Accessibility Resources & Service.
